Impact on New Zealand soldiers
World War one had an impact on the New Zealand soldiers because they had to experience so much pain and harshness from the war which scarred them for life. Most New Zealanders saw most of their friends joining up for the war so they mostly volunteered to join the war. Some men got peer pressured in joining by their friends. All New Zealand men who joined were basically young so they were impacted deeply because many of the soldiers who died were really young meaning they didn't get to experience a lot of things such as get marrying, having kids, or even owning a car. It was quite sad, if one soldier died it would have a huge impact on their loved ones back home because it would cause them to be shocked and devastated. New Zealand men hadn't really been anywhere besides New Zealand so when the war came all the young men had an opportunity to see Europe and have an adventure, this website tells us that their were many young soldiers who hadn't seen the world before http://www.nzhistory.net.nz/war/first-world-war
. But the impact from war is that there adventure would be one of the worst times of their lives because they would soon see the reality of war with deaths and shooting everywhere. 100,000 New Zealand soldiers left overseas to fight in the war but 18,000 were killed and 40,000 were wounded, this having a major impact on new Zealand. By so many deaths on New Zealand soldiers it gained awareness that many survivors wouldn't want to rejoin the war again due to all the bad experiences that they encountered. Many of the New Zealand soldiers who left to war gained many diseases and conditions such as fever, sicknesses, trench foot, diseases, and bad conditions, a website which states which soldiers died from which disease freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com.The soldiers who survived World War One were changed men. When they arrived back home they had become more hard working disciplined men. Also when they arrived home it was quite difficult for men to seek jobs so they had a lot of free time, as it says in this website .

The New Zealand soldiers tried anything to gain a job but only the most intelligent soldiers received jobs. Also when a lot of New Zealand soldiers arrived back home they still had sicknesses and diseases from the impact of war. This caused many of them to pass away in a few months or years. Some New Zealand soldiers who died in the war didn't receive a grave but only 344 had gained them. The trenches were horrific for the soldiers but to them they did everything in there. They ate, talked ,and slept in there. As the climate during the war changed it made life difficult for the soldiers because when it was summer it was too hot. This meant lack of water and for the flies to buzz around everywhere. When it rained it would flood everything and cause the mud to become wet causing soldiers to gain trench foot. Trench foot would be very painful and it would eat off your skin off until you'll be left with only a few toes. If the medics didn't check up on it, it would be too late and you would have to get it chopped off. New Zealand soldiers had to be careful wherever they went because at any time they could be shot or bombed. That is why so many feared for their lives. The soldiers who survived also gained shell shock from the bombings in World War one. This made it difficult for their families to look after them because they didn't know how to help, this website states provided evidence of this.

These are the impacts on New Zealand soldiers and what happened to them during and after World War one. This happened to many New Zealanders after and during the war known as trench foot. It was very painful which usually caused the person who had it to cut off their foots. It was caused by the mud getting wet when it rained or flooded the trenches. As you can see from the image it is very painful. This backs up my information on the impact on New Zealanders because as you can see many soldiers did recieve trench foot and just by looking at this photo it looks very sore and if it is unattended too it would have to be cut off.

An image of fallen soldiers at World War one. This was a possibility of going to war. If you were a soldier your path was either to die or survive to tell all the stories. As you can see in the images that the dead bodies were left there for ages , it would give a horrible stench which would impact many soldiers causing them to be sick. This backs up my information of soldiers being left there for ages which caused a bad stench for the soldiers.

A image of what the soldiers had to endure if they had got burnt. As you can see in this image it was a very painful and harsh burn which would be scared on you for life. Soldiers had to be careful of this cause it would burn the soldiers to death so you had to always be careful in war. This would cause many deaths due to the burning. This backs up my information of how new zealand soldiers were impacted.

A mini video from the Battle of Gallipoli. You can see all the conditions and impacts the soldiers had to go through during Gallipoli in this mini video. This is a primary source due to its a video during the time of the war. You can see how difficult it was for the soldiers because they were all new to all these machinery.
You see how scary it was in the war that's why many soldiers feared for their lives because there was no shelter and their was gun shots from everywhere. My evidence is that is shows all of these things in the video.
