New Zealand Involvement In World War 1
World War 1 occurred during 1914-1918, it was a very significant event to New Zealanders due to it had a large impact on New Zealanders and was where New Zealanders gained their own nationality identity. We celebrate Anzac day due to the Battle of Gallipoli which occurred in World War one . Anzac day is a day where we commemorate all the soldiers who served in the battle of Gallipoli. We commemorate all who fought and died for our freedom in New Zealand. New Zealand decided to join World War one because when the British Empire declared war on Germany we joined the war because we were included with the British Empire.
The war started due to in 1914 Austria-Hungary assassinated Serbia's Archduke causing World War one, this is shown in this website http://www.firstworldwar.com/timeline/1914.htm We were in alliance with the British Empire so when they declared war on Germany New Zealand automatically joined the war because they were our alliance. New Zealand had allied themselves with the Allies which included the British empire, France and Russia. They fought in the war to keep trade and to also help out there alliance Britain. The first World War was known at the time as the 'war to end all wars' because everyone believed by having a big world war it would end all the little wars and everyone would live peacefully. It was a major event for New Zealanders because from the 100, 000 New Zealanders who left about one fifth didn't return back home. 18500 New Zealanders died in the war and 41000 were wounded and my evidence which backs up my information is from this website http://www.nzhistory.net.nz/war/first-world-war-overview/introduction. Itwould have a huge impact on New Zealanders because back then New Zealand had around a population of a million . World War one had a huge impact on New Zealands society, the number of deaths, and money spent on the war. A positive impact which occurred from World War 1 was that New Zealand found there national identity at the Battle of Gallipoli. Thousands of New Zealanders lost their lives in World War but the ones who survived suffered shell shock and by having that made it difficult for the person enduring it and also the family who had to look after them.
