The Gallipoli Campaign
The Battle of Gallipoli occurred on the 25th of April 1915. It was where the ANZAC troops spent 8 months together trying to capture Gallipoli but failed. During the Battle of Gallipoli it was full of endless shooting which caused many deaths for all these young soldiers. The aim for the allies was to force the Turkish people to surrender but the reality of trying to do that was much more harder than they thought. The two fought a fierce battle and neither of them could reach other due to the endless shooting and trenches. The ANZACS goal was to distract the Turkish. Only a small number of New Zealanders landed at Gallipoli. 3100 New Zealand soldiers landed at Gallipoli from the amount of 8556, my evidence is from this website http://www.nzhistory.net.nz/war/the-gallipoli-campaign/introduction. The battle of Gallipoli was a battle which failed for the allies and as a consequence New Zealand lost a third of soldiers who took part in Gallipoli. The battle of Gallipoli will be a significant event to New Zealanders due to all the deaths caused and also in a positive a battle where New Zealanders found their national identity. From a small population New Zealand lost many soldiers but in the face of death many of the soldiers showed no fear but courage. The brave men gained the respect of many and were praised for their loyal ness to the motherland, this website provides support http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_history_of_New_Zealand_in_World_War_I

http://www.anzacsite.gov.au/2visiting/touranzac10.html A painting at the Battle of Gallipoli, you can see from this painting the conditions the soldiers had to go though. Being shot from every direction, cramped conditions inside the trenches and also while in the trenches many wounded and dead soldiers. The soldiers had to climb over the trenches and take on soldiers in hand to hand combat. You can see why many soldiers at gallipoli died, it was because no place was safe for any soldier.
