Impact on New Zealand Society from WW1
Word War one had a major impact on New Zealand. Only from the 100,000 soldiers who left for the war only one fifth returned. It had a positive impact for New Zealanders due to it was the place where New Zealaners found their identity. This created a major impact because back then the population of New Zealand was around one million. This would decrease New Zealands population deeply and would create many funerals back home because of how so many were lost in World War one. The number of men who died in World War was 18,000 and the number of wounded was 40,000. The majority of soldiers who fought in World War one from New Zealand were young men, making it sad for family members who lost them because they were all basically very young. World War one impacted all New Zealanders such as families, schools, and local communities. My evidence that it impacted these people deeply was due to all these communities and families all had memorials to remember all the brave strong soldiers who passed away in World War one, my evidence is from this website because it shows the impact on students who left from schools http://www.nzhistory.net.nz/war/new-zealanders-in-belgium/soldiers-stories. World War one created many deaths and sadness for many people. But all the ones who remained home have many stories of there loved ones and will honor all the New Zealanders who sacrificed themselves for us to live today. Due to New Zealanders leaving the country to train and take part in the war, females had to start working and make money for their families. Females were impacted in World War one because they had to work in dangerous and harsh conditions. They made equipment for men at war and they had to also take part in male jobs due to all the males had left to join the war, this website provided evidence for my information http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Women_in_World_War_I
. Females had to look after their kids due to the kids were starving , and in loss of their loved ones. They were in need of food so many females looked for jobs males would usually take to look after their families. Females also worked and fundraised money for the war, my evidence is from this website http://www.nzhistory.net.nz/media/photo/womens-fundraising World War one had major impact on New Zealand because as a consequence we had major political issues. Many of the men who left for the war were very young and had never really visited any places only places in New Zealand. The war created opportunity for these young men because they were able to see other countries. Many New Zealanders joined the war for that and also because of all the posters and advertisements in that time saying how brilliant and heroic the World War one would be. But once New Zealanders took foot in the war everything went upside down because the reality of war had stepped in and everyone had witnessed the real side of war. It had a huge impact on society back home because they were deceived that the war was going great and was a great happy place but in reality it was full of young scared men who were being killed in action. Many of the men regretted going out to join the war but many sacrificed themselves to protect loved ones back at home. A impact of World War is that all the ones who were wounded or dead had to be cared for by nurses or were being grieved by family members. A major impact which caused difficulty was shell shock , shell shock was from the impact of bombings in the war. Shell shock caused difficulty for the person who had it and also for the families who had to look after their loved ones who had shell shock. Many females took on a hard difficult jobs of moving resources well some choose to become a nurse instead, this website backs up my information http://www.firstworldwar.com/features/womenww1_three.htm
. Women had a hard time due to they would usually cook, clean and look after their families but when the war arrived they had join factories and take on male jobs.
This is a good source which shows a video of historians explaining their points of view on how World war changed New Zealand , this is a good video due to it states the impacts on New Zealand too.

This source shows a poster which shows the world war census and conscription. This would be a huge impact on society because by stating that the war would end by Christmas would give false information and it would cause sadness and frustration to all the New Zealanders back home. Giving a massive impact on society because everything would still be much harder for females due to they would have to take on male jobs for a longer time period and soldiers would be shocked that instead of returning home they would be fighting in the war still.

This is the letter loved ones received when there family member had been killed in action or had been missing. This would cause many loved ones into tears due to they would know that something bad has happened to their loved one. They had to send many of these letters to family members back home due to all the deaths from New Zealanders. This would cause many family members to break down and be heart broken that their family members are now gone. This helps provide evidence of how the people back at home would feel receiving bad news about their loved ones because by receiving this it would cause the person reading it to break out in tears.

Recycling: As part of the war effort, old paper had to be reused. These women are pulling apart old ledgers belonging to the London & South West Railway. As you can see in this image females taking jobs during world war one at a recycling place so they are able to survive. This picture shows females taking on jobs to help support for their family due to their were no males in new zealand because they were all away a war.
Backbreaking: Women even took on tough, physical roles such as moving rubble, as seen in this photograph taken in Coventry
This is a very tough job because it is ithe factories. These were the consequences of males going to war because it would have a huge impact on females back home. This backs up my information of how the impacts on females back home in New Zealand. It shoes females taking on jobs which were very hard and mostly for men.
